Humakot ng awards sa katatapos lamang na 28th Star Awards for Movies ang Manila Kingpin: The Asiong Salonga Story at In The Name of Love.
Ang Star Awards for Movies ay taunang ipinamamahagi ng Philippine Movie Press Club (PMPC). Ginanap ang awarding ceremonies ngayong gabi, March 14, sa Meralco Theater.
Walong tropeyo ang napalunan ng Asiong Salonga at lima naman para sa In The Name of Love.
Kabilang sa awards ng Asiong Salonga ang Movie of the Year at Best Actor para sa bida ng pelikula na si Governor ER Ejercito.
Naka-tie ni Governor ER bilang Best Actor si Aga Muhlach para sa pagganap nito sa pelikulang In The Name of Love.
Ang kapareha ni Aga sa In The Name of Love na si Angel Locsin naman ang itinanghal na Best Actress.
Tinalo ni Angel sa kategoryang ito sina Ai-Ai delas Alas (Enteng Ng Ina Mo), Anne Curtis (No Other Woman), Eugene Domingo (Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank), Lovi Poe (My Neighbor's Wife), Maja Salvador (Thelma), at Judy Ann Santos (My Househusband).
Ang co-star nina Aga at Angel sa In The Name of Love na si Jake Cuenca ay nagwagi namang Best Supporting Actor; ka-tie si Baron Geisler para sa Asiong Salonga.
Bagamat si Tikoy Aguiluz ang siyang tunay na nagdirek ng Asiong Salonga, ang itinanghal na Movie Director of the Year ay si Darryl dela Cruz. Hindi pa kasi nagkakaayos ang kampo ni Direk Tikoy at ni Governor ER sa isyu nila tungkol sa pelikula.
Ang Thelma naman ang nagwaging Digital Movie of the Year.
Ang direktor ng Thelma na si Paul Soriano ang nanalong Digital Movie Director of the Year. Si Direk Paul ay kasintahan ng actress-singer na si Toni Gonzaga.
Ang Kapuso star na si Lovi Poe ang nagwaging Movie Supporting Actress of the Year para sa pagganap niya sa Yesterday Today Tomorrow.
Tatlo pang GMA-7 artists ang nanalo ng acting awards: sina Solenn Heussaff bilang New Movie Actress of the Year para sa Temptation Island; Rocco Nacino bilang New Movie Actor of the Year para sa Ang Sayaw ng Dalawang Kaliwang Paa; at Jillian Ward bilang Child Performer of the Year para sa Aswang.
Ang beteranong aktor na si Eddie Gutierrez ang ginawaran ngayong taon ng Ulirang Artista Award. Ang kanyang anak na si Ruffa Gutierrez ang nag-present ng award sa dating Sampaguita Pictures contract star.
Ang multi-awarded director na si Marilou Diaz-Abaya naman ang pinarangalan bilang Ulirang Alagad ng Pelikula sa Likod ng Kamera.
Ang mga nag-host ng awards night ay sina Anne Curtis, KC Concepcion, Derek Ramsay, at Aga Muhlach.
